Flame of Healing:
A Daily Journey of Healing
from Abuse and Trauma

My son, Ormond Emmons, painted this and

gave it to me for my 67th birthday,

honoring the hope and healing

that Flame of Healing continues

to bring to so many individuals.

It has blessed me deeply.

I utilized the macramé I learned

in my youth to make a

decorative hanger/frame.

Flame of Healing: A Daily Journey of Healing from Abuse and Trauma is for every person who is seeking healing from the immobilizing emotional pain of abuse or trauma suffered in childhood or adulthood. With the Word of God as its foundation and focus, each step of healing offers compassion and hope. Written and artistic personal responses are encouraged for personal, in-depth healing. Flame of Healing was written with a two-fold purpose, to honor God as the ultimate source of healing and to honor the individual who courageously seeks healing. Flame of Healing is helping people in seven countries to heal from abuse and trauma.

"As I read Flame of Healing, I found myself feeling the emotions of the trauma I had gone through as a child. I followed Freda's suggestions, writing of how Christ was helping me, healing me of the hate and anger that I had bottled up. This book has brought me from the darkness of hate and anger to basking in the light of Christ."   Marilyn Wade, Oregon

"Flame of Healing is unlike anything I've read, and far surpasses most books on inner healing in its approach and effectiveness. The positive approach taken in this book does not gloss over the depths to which one must delve in order to gain freedom and healing. Freda has captured the imperative essence of light and healing."    Susan Davis, Oregon

“Your book is a God Send. Because of my nursing background, people feel comfortable telling me their stories of abuse. I feel through your book, I can now know a tool to help them heal. Your book doesn’t focus on the trauma. It focuses on the healing and in the process, the pain from the trauma slowly ebbs away and is replaced by a sense of faith, hope, security and even purpose.”  Joan, Vermont

“Your book was a tremendous help."  Kathy, Oregon

“Thanks for your book — it is really wonderful. I am reading it every night before I go to sleep.”  Jill, Minnesota

“I have given your book to some of the people who have come to me for pastoral counseling, before referring them to a licensed counselor... thanks for writing a book that allows others to journal and feel hope...”  Pastor Morgan K. Hjelm, Washington

“My friend gave me a copy... I wanted to thank you for the wonderful book. What a WONDERFUL way to learn from all this... the “work book” part... it’s great !!!! Thank you so much for this book... Love your writing and knowledge !!!!!” Julie, Oregon

"I have developed a habit of self-exploration and self-expression through your book. I have not drawn since high school,  but have been touched by the pictures you have us draw. I have grown so much in courage and expression during the last five months. I continue to use your book daily, praying and responding to God's leading."   Becky, Oregon

Flame of Healing Chapters:

Chapters

The concept of a fire forms the tangible connection of this devotional. It follows 2 Timothy 1:6, to "fan into flame the gift of God." God places in each person a gift, to be blessed and to bless others. Abuse and trauma immobilizes that beauty. Taking these small steps toward healing, while soaking in the love of God, is both courageous and life-changing.

1. Receiving God's Love

2. Suffering, Through the Perspective of Christ

3. Identifying and Accepting Emotions

4. Forgiveness, A Process of Grace

5. Your Identity in Christ, Rather than Victimization

6. Beyond Pain, Reaching Out to Others

A dear friend, a man of God,

who was a medical missionary

to Africa for 40 years, gave me

this beautiful wood carving in 1990.

It was hand-carved in Africa.

I cherish this; it is an exact

representation of how safe

and loved I feel in the

hand of God.
